K C Kumara Lankeshwara , the former national player booted the winning goal for the Airmen off a good corner kick from P J Chaminda in the 57th minutes. The final saw both teams attacking each others goals during the first half. It was so competitive and the goals keepers, Ruwan Arunasiri ( Air Force ) and Lawrance Prince ( Renown ) grabbed the ball so securely to finish the first half with no goals for both teams.
But after the break Air Force seemed stronger and well organized. They won a corner kick in the 56th minutes and the reflection from the renown defender's head went over the bars which gave Air Force another corner stricke. Chaminda was right on target this time with a curved kick but Lawrance Prince saved it wel but resulted in another corner for Air Force.
Chaminda aimed the kick right in front of the goal and Lankeshwara made no mistake in diverting the ball to bypass Prince to collect the winning goal for Air Force.
Renown played well during the last few minutes but were so unlucky. They missed a few yet good chances of scoring. In the early stage of the match Renown captain Fazal missed two opportunities. The hight light was both goal keepers did thier job well specially Ruwan Ariunasiri for the champions saved many sure to be goals.
In the dying minutes Renown were attacking and possessed the ball more than thier opponents.
Their last opportunity was so close when a header form Renown striker hit the cross bar , bumped almost on the line.
Lankeshwara won the most valuable player award while M N M Isadeen who scored the most number of goals in the tournament was awarded the golden boot award.
